If you’ve been searching for the best senior picture locations near Athens, GA, you are in the right place! As a photographer who has been serving seniors and families across the Athens area for years, I’ve had the joy of exploring so many beautiful corners of this town (and the surrounding area) in search of that perfect light, that perfect backdrop, and that perfect moment.
Senior pictures are so much more than just a photo. They are a milestone. They are the beginning of a new chapter, and they deserve to be celebrated beautifully. Whether your senior is bold and adventurous, classic and timeless, or somewhere in between, Athens and the surrounding area have something truly special to offer. Here are seven of my favorite senior picture locations near Athens, GA, that every grad should know about.

There is something simply magical about UGA’s North Campus, and it never gets old. The iconic Arch, the old-growth trees draped in Spanish moss, the red brick walkways, and the towering columns create a backdrop that is both timeless and deeply meaningful, especially for seniors who are heading off to college soon or who have grown up cheering on the Dawgs their whole lives.
The natural light here in the early morning and late afternoon is absolutely gorgeous. We love bringing seniors here because the architecture gives us so many different looks in one location. You can go from classic and elegant to bright and airy all within a short walk. If your senior has a connection to UGA or simply loves that rich, historic Southern feel, this is absolutely worth considering.
Pro tip: Weekday mornings tend to be quieter and give us the most flexibility with the space.

Downtown Athens is one of those locations that just has so much personality. From the colorful murals and independent storefronts along College Avenue to the charming side streets with exposed brick walls and wrought iron details, there is no shortage of backdrops that feel vibrant, creative, and totally unique to this town.
If your senior is outgoing, artistic, or loves a more editorial look for their portraits, downtown Athens delivers. The variety of textures and colors means we can capture a wide range of moods and styles all in one session. It is one of my favorite places to bring seniors who want something a little different from the traditional outdoor field or wooded setting.
Pro tip: Plan for golden hour in the late afternoon. The light bouncing off the buildings during that time of day is truly stunning.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a hidden gem for senior portraits, and honestly, it is one of those locations that photographs beautifully no matter what time of year you visit. With over 313 acres of natural woodland and themed gardens, the variety here is incredible.
From the lush perennial garden to the winding woodland trails and the gorgeous conservatory, there is so much to work with here. Seniors who love nature, florals, or a soft and romantic feel for their portraits tend to absolutely fall in love with this location. The light filters through the tree canopy in the most dreamy way, and the greenery provides a natural, rich backdrop that feels elevated and timeless.
Pro tip: Spring and fall are especially stunning here, but summer offers that lush, full-green look that photographs beautifully.

Sandy Creek Park is a wonderful option for seniors who love the outdoors and want a more natural, relaxed feel for their senior portra
its. With a beautiful lake, open fields, walking trails, and wooded areas, there is so much variety available without ever having to leave the park.
We love bringing seniors here who want that effortless, candid kind of session — images that look like you were just living your life in a gorgeous setting. The open sky near the lake provides beautiful, soft natural light, and the variety of terrain means we can mix up the look and feel of the images throughout the session.
Pro tip: The golden hour light over the lake is absolutely breathtaking and worth planning your session around.

Located about 25 minutes east of Athens in Comer, GA, Watson Mill Bridge State Park is one of those truly special locations that is worth the short drive. Home to Georgia’s longest original covered bridge, the park also features a beautiful river with rocky shoals, wooded trails, and open meadows that offer an incredible variety of backdrops all in one spot.
The covered bridge itself is absolutely iconic for senior portraits. It adds an element of charm and history that you just can’t find anywhere else. This is one of those locations that always produces images our seniors absolutely love. It photographs beautifully in every season, and the natural surroundings give the images a timeless, storybook quality.
Pro tip: This location is especially stunning in fall when the leaves turn. If your senior is hoping for warm autumn tones, this one is at the top of my list.

Memorial Park and the surrounding Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail area offer a wonderful woodland setting right in the heart of Athens. The wooded trails, open green spaces, and natural creek create a peaceful, organic feel that is perfect for seniors who want portraits that feel natural, relaxed, and unhurried.
We love bringing seniors here who feel most at home outdoors and want images that feel genuine rather than posed. The dappled light coming through the tree canopy is one of my favorite things about this location. It creates a soft, flattering quality of light that photographs beautifully and feels effortless in the final images.
Pro tip: This location is great for the senior who wants to incorporate a pet or family dog into a portion of their session!

This one is close to my heart. Early Hill is one of our two beautiful, private scenic locations, a stunning historic homestead located in Greensboro, GA, just about 30 minutes from Athens. Choosing the right location is such an important part of the process, but it is really just one piece of the puzzle! Here are a few things to keep in mind as you start planning your senior session:
Book early: Senior session spots, especially for fall, fill up quickly. Reaching out several months in advance gives you the most flexibility with timing, location, and light.
Think about your senior’s personality: The best senior portraits are the ones that feel true to who your senior is right now. A location that speaks to their personality will shine through in every single image.
Wardrobe matters more than you think: The right outfits can completely transform a session. We love helping our seniors plan their looks ahead of time, and we are happy to provide guidance every step of the way.
Consider the light: Every great portrait starts with great light. As a photographer with years of experience scouting locations across Athens and the surrounding area, I will always help guide you toward the timing and setting that will yield the most beautiful results.
